I have been strangely patient on updates for the sequel to THE BATMAN since the first one came out. I've been wondering about it's existence ESPECIALLY since James Gunn got the keys to the kingdom of DC's film universe. There's been small details here and there, minor updates, projected release dates but nothing super concrete or inspiring. Today I found an article that echoed my sentiments on the topic at hand and here's my findings (Continue reading for the full rundown)
When James Gunn and Peter Safran got the keys to DC over two years ago, Warner Bros. had just recently announced a sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 hit The Batman. Gunn and Safran planned to let Reeves do his thing, and they’d cast their own Batman in a film called The Brave and the Bold. However, almost three years have passed since Reeves’ Batman sequel was announced and, after multiple delays, it’s still almost three years away. Is DC really going to wait almost five years to make its own Batman movie?
Let me start off my saying that WHEN (not if) this movie comes out I hope it stays true to the tone and themes established in the first flick. I am one of the few who doesn't grow tired of James Gunn, his approach to films, or even his style when executing Comic adaptations, but I have been adamant he leaves every trace of himself off this film and let it breathe the air it was meant too. No super cheesy STARRO, no comic accurate Green Lantern, no campy but fun rides...... The first Batman was basically a love child of SE7EN mixed with Gotham and it's find the way it is. I very much enjoy the Riddler as an antagonist and I absolutely loved the route they went with him in THE BATMAN. So this brings us to the reason we're here............Where are we going from here?

"What about Pattinson? Is he going to move out of the Reeves universe into the DC Universe? “It’s certainly not the plan,” Gunn said. “And we love him,” Safran added. “But we got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. It’s imperative. And so that’s the plan with Brave and the Bold.” Gunn added that he is personally “very, very actively involved in” the writing of that movie." -Source: Gizmodo.comReading the article was mildy insightful but still frustratingly a little bit vague. Some main takeaways in case you don't read the source article are:
-CLAYFACE is off the table. They want him in Gunn's DCU, not Reeves' grounded batman world
-Robert Patt's is still Batman (thank god)
-THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD is still in the works separate from this project
-A tie in to the point above^ THE BATMAN films are self-contained. Not tie-ins to DCU
-October 2027 is the official release date (as of now at least)
I mean in a roundabout way, we are right back where we started but there's more info out now. I JUST WISH THEY WOULD REVEAL WHO THE VILLAIN IS GOING TO BE!! Nonetheless though, you know what I know on the topic and I'll be followign this as more unfolds in the future.
