 For me this is a big deal. Ive started a plan to migrate to a new (dot).com

Today I purchased the18734.com for this blog in an attempt to consolidate, revitalize, and retain more agency over my blog and its affiliation. I'll have better controls over spam and ads and all that nonsense. Soon we could have an email list and who knows what else. I've begun to launch a plan to organize my brand and streamline all my SOCIALS include YT, FB, Instagram, and now I can also say F*************k you blogger! (well soon...not quite yet)

I got my domain purchased until this day 2028 :-) huzzah! more to come!

That's right folks! Ryan Gosling back with more cinema gold for your daily life and double bonus-- This one is a SCI-FI flick. When I was watching this trailer I got major Interstellar/ The Martian vibes and upon doing research, turns out this is based off a book and the author of that book.....wrote THE MARTIAN (so the vibe check tracks). Apparently this trailer spoils a MAJOR twist of the book so be warned if that's a dealbreaker. I already saw it and found out after the fact but honestly it makes sense because even in my reakt video I said watch THIS be the majority of the movie and the astronaut lost in space trying to save the world is like the first 30mins. ANYWHO, got super excited when I randomly scrolled across this, got double excited when I watched the trailer and now I'm uber excited for this movie next year (why does it have to be so far away)

Seemingly out of friggin NOWHERE this bombshell dropped today and boy the internet isa BUZZING! MY man Mel Brooks is like 98 and still banging em out! It's quite impressive, but not only THAT but RICK MORANIS is coming out of retirement to reprise his role which is freaking uber EPIC. I mean this is just feel-good news in my book, Space Balls has ALWAYS had a special place in my heart, along with MANY Mel Brooks films. I love spoofs, I love Star Wars, I love John Candy, and this movie has all of that and more! I can keepp rambling and talking in circles but the fact of the matter is that it's REALLY happening!

Feeling Nostalgic, had an itch....decided to Edit old backpacking footage

 

I don't know what it is lately and I'm not complaining, maybe it's all of the sorting of chaos I've been doing in my head or maybe it's just a sudden strike inspiration. DON'T KNOW, DON'T CARE. I just know that I've been bitten by the creative bug again lately (which feels nice if I'm being honest) and I'm going to let it take me where it needs to go. It's funny, over the last few years I've ben getting bummed about how my artistic eye is dying and how I have writer's block but with the new journey I'm on, time is allowing me to recover and reinvigorate myself. 

TLDR: I got inspired last night and started editing two videos, the first one I forgot to save and my editing software FROZE on me, so I lost that (man it was a bummer, I was 3/4 of the way doen and it wasn't half bad imo) BUT I did start on another and that carried me over to this mornign where I finished it up....so here we are... Summer is fast approaching and hear in our neck of the woods (well, more accurately, the CONCRETE JUNGLE) the changing of the seasons is marked by a few other passing things..... Things like the birds chirping, foliage returning to our lucious forests but most importantly it usher's in one of my favorite seasons-- The time to see our local celebrities doing their thing. We are SUPER fortunate where I live to be graced by a few kind souls and because of this our little corner of the world shines a little brighter and has a little more flavor! "What Am I talking about" you may ask and if you're not from around here I have to explain: Basically from Spring to Fall we have three local celebrities that fills our city with charm. We have a Clown in a white TUXEDO who sits on street corners/intersections and plays his beautiful CELLO for hours at random (I usually see him closer to the weekend). We also have 2 warriors, one who dresses up like a KNIGHTS TEMPLAR and the lastly the subject of this post-- THE WESTLAND SPARTAN (who I have dubbed J-734). Dakk's Corner: The Past, The future, and the path forward (Shooting from the hip on my journey)

 

Hey everybody. Thanks for tuning in as always, I greatly appreciate your time and support, and I am grateful to be still doing what I'm doing. I've been stewing on some thoughts for a while now, and I've been doing some thinking so I decided to come down into the my sanctuary and record a video. So that's all................just some reflecting, from this long haired goofball

Day 7: Bittersweet ends and the last hoorah

Trail: Pt.2 of a Custom trail (a mix of the AT & the Pocosin trail)

Length: Estimated ~2.7 miles

Elevation: 400ft

Time: 8:33- 9:32 (on the dot I want to add)

 So I write this from the backseat of our vehicle on the 10 hour journey home. Fresh off of the last hike and I gotta say, THAT WAS A TOUGHIE. We wanted to push hard and fast and we did. For the most part the elevation was good to us, but there were some stretches where it got brutal for a second. The worst part is that we had limited water, due to the location of our campsite and the custom route we took we prepared for a zero water scenario. That part was fine but there's something mentally taxing about knowing you're low on water...... Either way though we hoofed it and made it back AHEAD OF SCHEDULE.  

Day 6: Packing out to a Custom Trail

 

Today we do the unconventional. Today we enter the backcountry. Today the warm boys are in search of the perfect spot to spend the night with sweet Mother Nature.

Trail: Custom (a mix of the AT & the Pocosin trail)

Length: Estimated ~5.1 miles

Elevation: 550ft

Time: 11:52-3:20

Today we say goodbye to CASA de Warm Boyz but alas....nothing lasts forever (even cold November Rain) so we broke down camp and skidaddled ASAP. 

This is George, he's a park Ranger and Eagle Scout. Dude is HARD AF, soo funny and has mad respect for nature. MY guy is 80 and still showing up early and putting in a day. I see him raking leaves, getting firewood, and just being pleasant with the campers as well as helpful to the thruhikers on the AT (This is a stopping point where people can layover, take a shower, resupply, whatever needbe)

Today was going to be a great day for me...... today is the day I planned to have my annual check-up with the universe. When we make camp.....I'm taking Psilocybin baybay :-) aquired LEGALLY in the City of Ann Arbor for the record.

Day 5: Hazel Falls (Probably the best trail)

 

Day 5 (May 5th)

Destination: Hazel Falls  

Length: 5.2 miles

Elevation:  950ft

Time: 11:20- 2:30

Day 4: Layover day

 

This will be short and sweet, not much to report on here……

We slept in, recovered, had an amazing breakfast, waited for the weather to break (and it did twice) and eventually just rallied up and played some board games. I really can’t talk about the rest haha

Day 3: Afternoon Monsoons

 Well…..currently battling some fun weather lol. It’s uh……yeah. It’s a spectrum I’ll tell ya

That’s right. I thought I’d have it easy after the hike….. Yanno, rush through the second half to beat the rain and then go home and hunker down. But NOOOOOOOO, the weather has to go all whacked out on goofballs. Shenanigans I tell you, SHENANIGANS

The CAVE CEMETARY fiasco

 Oh boy…. Get ready for this one.

The Rose River trail has been my most anticipated trail since we started planning this trip in November, it’s always seemed the most evenhanded of our selections and as far as sightseeing goes it’s got a little bit of everything for everyone. So since about a month ago I have been even more eager to hike it, I was putzing around the inter webs and found out there was a cave cemetery there! Sooo cool. How friggin awesome. I was super jazzed for it, I mean how can you not be? Well here’s my tale of that…..

Day 3: Warm Boyz take Rose River

What a great time today. I have been looking forward to this trail most of all, and since day 1 have been pitching it hard and advocating on its behalf fiercely. It looked like it had a little of everything and now that we’ve gone and came back I can confirm that that is true. The spot we chose for lunch was an added bonus as well, with the only drawback being cutting things short in an attempt to beat the rain (and right so because….. yeah…. You’ll hear about THAT)

Destination: Rose River falls Loop

Length: 4.1 miles 

Elevation gain: 830ft

Time: 11:15- 2:11

Day 2: Hike 2- Lewis Falls trail loop

Destination: Lewis Falls (waterfall)

Distance: 3.3miles

Elevation gain: 841ft

Time: 12:40- 3:20

After our nice warm up we were ready for the easy finish with a bonus of lunch AT the falls. Absolutely spectacular…. Wanna check it out? CONTINUE READING

Day 2: Hike 1- Bearfence scramble (my favorite trail)

Destination: Bearfence Trail loop

Distance: 1.2 miles

Elevation Gain: 990ft

Time: 10:45- 12:15

 As mentioned….. if you read my previous post….. Today we got a double outing planned. With potentially imminent rain we wanna knockout one of our more challenging treks because it is strongly advised against to do with wet rocks due to slippage….. (and sine I’m writing this afterthefact I’ll tell you this, it is definitely certain to do in unsafe conditions)

At about 3:20 we rolled up into this beezy, with hope in our hearts and adventure in our minds.
