Is there a sign on my lawn that says 'Dead Federation storage?: The QT Star Trek flick that almost came to be......

Did you know Quentin Tarantino ALMOST made a STAR TREK movie? Yeah that's right....you heard that. It ALMOST happened. Recently, Acting Gem Simon Pegg (one of my favorite actors and fellow fanboy) opened up about this in an interview. I completely forgot about this project until I read this article from SUPER HERO HYPE, when it was first announced I was following the production EVERYTIME there was an update, but it just slowly seemed to fizzle out into obscurity.....LET'S TALK ABOUT IT!

One of the more intriguing “what ifs” in recent Hollywood history revolves around Quentin Tarantino‘s unmade Star Trek movie. Simon Pegg, who played Scotty in the rebooted trilogy, recently shared some of the wild details he heard about Tarantino’s script. -Source VIA SHH.com

Ok let me set the scene..... PICTURE THIS:

The year is 2017, Quentin Tarantino goes to approach approached  J.J. Abrams and Paramount with an idea........ Let's make an R-rated Star Trek, so he came up with a pitch for it. Abrams liked the idea and assembled a group for a writers’ room on his concept. Included in this group is screenwriter Mark L. Smith ( of The Revenant fame), who was hired to actually write the script.

Both QT and J.J. were attached to produce, and the Pulp Fiction scribe even appraoched to direct. I mean THIS IS A WINNING COMBINATION (or so we thought)

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT................By 2020, Tarantino said he would not direct his Star Trek film and as of 2025, there are no plans to make Tarantino’s vision for Star Trek, which is depressing..... in a climate YEARNING and CRAVING for original scripts we could've been cooking with gold here. QT is known for one thing and that is delivering us a quality cinema experience EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Dude is like OLD PIXAR and only cranks out bangers (not new pixar which simps for disney with their garbage cash grab sequels)

This past weekend, Pegg spoke on a panel at Fan Expo Boston, and Tarantino’s Star Trek movie was brought up during the conversation. While he never read a script, Pegg received a breakdown from J.J. Abrams and producer Lindsey Weber. In true Tarantino fashion, it did not disappoint. “That was what we call in the business bats— crazy,” Pegg said via Collider. “It was everything you would expect a Quentin Tarantino Star Trek script to be.” -Source VIA SHH.com

So Naturally reading the SUPERHEROHYPE article and typing THIS ARTICLE got me curious as to.....WHAT, exactly what happened to the flick. In my research I was pointed to this video on YOUTUBE, which kind of goes into details about what happened

Here are some takeaways:

-It would've been R-Rated, QT had said many times he would go out of his way to ensure it was.
-He would personally consider it a side project, not counting towards his plans of his "10 Film then retire idea"
-QT hated the Kelvin (amispellingitright?) timeline, so this movie would follow the Shatner 'TOS' timeline but it sounds like he wanted to use the current J.J. Abrams cast (was a little bit vague so I'm not 100% sure about that)

-QT's fav Trek episodes both deal with time travel and essentially reset at the end of the story, meaning liberties can be taken because when the film ends it would be at the moment it began effectively nixing continuity issues

-Did I mention he hated the Kelvin timeline, he even told J.J.  ABRAMS that to which Abrams replied "EVERYBODY HATES IT, just ignore it"

-He would take an episodic approach to the film, requiring little familiarity with established LORE to enjoy the film

-Essentially his plans were a remake of TOS season 2 episode 17 called "A piece of the action" and expand it into a full length film (which to him would be easy because he felt ANY episode in TOS could've been expanded to a feature length film)

-Paramount I guess simultaneously hired the writing duo from RINGS OF POWER to penn a script, don't know if QT was obligated to film it or not if studio heads decided so......but the plot is bonkers because it retcons the kelvin timeline, he introduces Chris Hemsworth as kirks dad (his essence was stored in a transporter for convoluted reasons, and he is essentially 'brought back' to have a FATHER/SON duo movie much in the spirit of the third Indiana Jones film (WHATTT??)
CH ultimately rejected the script because he felt it was underwhelming

-If I had to guess, QT got bored or frustrated and stepped down from his production but still encouraged Paramount to proceed anyways......well....THEY DIDN'T.

Turns out......that story is underwhelming as well. Hollywood just being hollywood *shrugs*
