The following video was released and film in-camera with no post production effects. It is just projected onto two whiteboards. Continue reading to S%&t bricks

Business and Psychology: The Science of Food and Texture!

In a startling (but unsurprising) turn of events... It seems the food service industry will be Eyeing aspects of HOW we eat and the WAY we do it as well.
I was grilling some stir-fry today for a customer and she brought this article to my attention and in turn I'm doing the same!

Why Food Companies Are Fascinated by the Way We Eat

You're Either stupid or trying to kill yourself...great Job!: Woman Drinks Coke Instead Of Water For 16 Years

So..... just came across a fascinating article (while perusing the POPSCi articles) and it doesn't even surprise me one bit:

A 31-year-old Monaco woman was recently admitted to the hospital after suffering arrhythmia and fainting spells. Her potassium levels were found to be absurdly, dangerously low. These are bad warning signs, but the woman had no family history of heart problems. Further investigation revealed that the patient had not had a sip of water in 16 years; instead she drank only cola.

Yup....smart decision..... read on to lose a sense of shame (I religiously consume milk though so I got no room to judge.....even though milk is all natural and ISN'T used as insecticide in some 3rd world countries. DONT BELIEVE ME.. HERE)

My first Post Back from the Dead: And it's about Pooping and Menstruation (take that tight asses)

I've been without Internet since Thursday and it's been a lot of things. At first it was frustrating because, let's face it, we are all becoming addicted/dependent/whatever-you-want-to-call-it on technology but after a day or two the 'itch' went away. Not to mention the little fact that I spent Friday thru Sunday (literally from the time I woke up to the time I layed down) Packing/Unpacking Moving and rearranging my whole life because I moved into an apartment with my longtime Girlfriend (8 years longtime.... BOOYA! I lover her) Nancy. Without going into the details on that (and yes it actually IS going smooth and it IS relatively perfect) I can say that it is just marvelous.

I know I've been gone and I know you may or may not care, but I'm BACK and that's all that matters, so let's get into it:

FYI: Why Do I Poop More When I Have My Period?
(Thanks to POPULARSCIENCE's website for posting this ARTICLE. I needed that)

DIY: Do It yourself Water Filtration made easy!

Pretty self explanatory..... I wish we got cool stuff like this on our cigarette packs these days. Instead we just get cancer warnings and smoking deterrents. Either way Enjoy! (ps...you're welcome if this ever comes in handy)

MEME round up: 9/20 Edition (movin on upppppp)

I can be funny, productive and lazy all at the same time! KUDOS to DANA WINKLER (Derek's GF) who is my source for the best ones (usually is too). I'd also like to thank: The internet, my mother, sarcastic comedy, Bill Nye and StumbleUPON (big thank you there...you beatout my MOM for closer on my thankyou list.)

For all (zombie) Apocalypse enthusiast: Clean Water for Pennies A day

First of all I'd just like to point out this poiniant/miniscule/major point about this product: Plastic absorbs bacteria n such...something to think about.... anyways......

I just came across a nifty lil' condensation machine (that's what I'd call it at least)
It's called the WATERCONE and apparently it's been around since 2004 (and probably wayyyy before that before we went mainstream with plastic...) but this lil' nifty device can definitely come in handy. Continue reading for a more indepth look and video (and slight ridiculing)

Bill NYE is 'Gettin it' on DWTS!

Here's a clip of Bill Nye on his debut performance in 'Dancing with the Stars.'

Personally I think Bill is doing to mainstream TV what bigbang does for nerds to mainstream audiences. It was whacky, innovative, and fun!

That's probably why the judges hated on himm soooooo hard also. IMO he didn't do bad at all. Especially with his ass almost-pushing 60. Especially, especially with the 'Science Guy' celebrating its 20th anniversary.

'Y' my generation sucks: Why Generation Y Yuppies Are Unhappy

Just came across (ewwwww) an article off of the huffington post's website entitled

'Why Generation Y Yuppies Are Unhappy'

and it is a pretty interesting read.

;
It is a given that my generation has a serious problem with: Constructed criticism, delusional expectations, over-inflated egos, over-inflated self-worth etc
but I don't fully agree with all the points in this article. Granted, when reading it the first time, all the points makes sense and the argument seems agreeable after your initial read but I still find a couple foundational flaws with some of the variables that come with living.

First off Read the article HERE and then click to continue reading so I can fill your head with my opinions!

This is pretty much my plot to a short story I've called 'Evil Dead in space': Mars pioneers more than likely to go bat$h!t cray cray (or..crazy. which ever)

I'd just like to start off by saying that since its announcement I've been pretty geared up about our mission to mars. I think that its wild, innovative, ballsy, and a step towards our expansion of the stars. When the project/mission/whatever-its-called were made public I'm not going to lie I applied, and it was EXCITING. Not to mention I was going through some stuff and wouldn't have minded leaving Earth and never coming back (double bonus!) but in all seriousness...... new things have come to light
Lately the project is facing scrutiny as an article was just released detailing the more than likely (in science we call that probable) chance that these brave souls will go insane or suffer from some (if more than some) psychological illnesses. Continue reading though for more depressing info! (quite interesting I say)

Amen......Lovers love, Fighters fight, Winners win, Sinners sin and creative people create. period. No cop-outs needed

Doc-TOR- who

mind....blown. I was just reading a proposed article that delves into the alleged easter eggs on the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary poster (found below)
Now you really can't see it much but if you blow-up (not destroy..but to enlarge visually) the section containing John Hurt's 'Doctor' incarnation there are several things you may or may not notice. Now I'm not trying to plagarise that article in any means but I will probably end up falling into that category after this little separation tab..... continue reading for more!

Monty Python and other Non-sensical things......

Instead of doing like 4 different posts I'm just going to do some cramming and combine then allll into one spectacular, ginormous, stupendous, willy-nilly super post!

So let's get started!

Saweeeeeeeet: Days of Future Past to cream jeans (or something like that)

awwwww man I'm pumped (yet again).... Days of Future PAst is shaping up to be the BEST x-men movie yet. Sentinels, Wolverine, time travel, Kitty pride, galore! I just got done reading an article over at SUPERHEROHYPE.com about DOFP and Hugh Jackman had something to say!

"I know, having sat at Comic-Con on that panel with that extraordinary cast, I keep saying it's like two movies in one, but with the size of it it's really three in one. It really is going to blow people away because of the story. Bryan Singer, I think, is going to become the first director to make increasingly better movies in a franchise, I'm not sure if there's anyone else that's done it." -Hugh Jackman

Quantum Computers Bia! Check it out... The future is always now!

ANNOUNCEMENT: The University of Bristol is launching a project called simply 'Qcloud' which promises to make quantum computing resources available for all.
(READ ARTICLE: here)
I think that's friggin sweet! I've heard about quantum computers for a year or two now, at least that's when I started paying attention. They still can't do shit compared to their full potential but they've still come a long way (in reality ANYTHING that can performed on/off of/whatever a SINGLE atom is a seriously amazing feat no matter how big or small) and its exciting that this open-sourced project is being launched. NEVER HEARD OF A QUANTUM COMPUTER BEFORE? Want a brief summary from the Jackie Chan of theoretical Physics? (that was meant to be clever and compliment not racist. Just in case you inferred that) Continue reading for more information plus a Video from Youtube's own Michio Kaku

Another day another Useless youtube video: Party all the time

So who hasn't heard Eddie Murphy's (really it's Rick James as performed by Eddie Murphy but thats a debate) 'hit' single PARTY ALL THE TIME. Thats shit came out circa 1985, when I was still just a twinkle in the eye, and it's been causing all sorts of verbs to reality.

Sidenote: I found PATT on vinyl at a record store for $.99, and I scooped that sweet deal up because why not! Double sidenote: I bought Dio's Holy Diver on vinyl for $.99 in the same trip, and that REALLY was awesome. ("Cool story bro").

ANYWAYS watch this funny tribute/mash-up to PArty all the time and laugh at the Rick James Coc scene

DUDESCAST 16: IS UP mother foh's!

Dudescast 16- "candles" is up and ready for a listening too.

This one is an hour and forty-seven minutes looooong though so be ready for
the long haul or start something and put this in your background of life.

Hate alllllll you want but this is actually very good parenting: Guelph family lives like it's 1986

In an effort to be good parents, Blair and Morgan Guelph have taken their family back in time to 1986 Literally! ("really?" No, jackass....... that isn't possible.....yet)
What brought on this drastic and totally unorthodox (yet incredibly clever and innovative) you may ask, well I have the answer: kids (they're always the problem and solution aren't they?).

The family started shunning technology after Blair asked his son Trey to join him in playing outside. Unfortunately, Trey opted to continue swiping his tiny fingers on daddy’s iPad and, in the process, unwittingly sentenced his family to a year of let’s-pretend-it’s-not-2013.
“That’s kind of when it hit me because I’m like, wow, when I was a kid, I lived outside,” Blair said.

Now I'll be the first to admit that this is a little bit crazy and so would Blair Guelph, but that's the reason why he's decided to do it. (After all drastic times call for drastic measures)

“We’re parenting our kids the same way we were parented for a year just to see what it’s like,” Blair said. They do their banking in person instead of online. They develop rolls of film for $20 each instead of Instagramming their sons’ antics. They recently traveled across the United States using paper maps and entertaining their screaming kids with colouring books and stickers, passing car after car with TVs embedded in the headrests and content infants seated in the back.

World renown heart surgeon speaks out on what really causes heart disease

"As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact. I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled “opinion makers.” Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol."

This is a very discerning/interesting/eye-opening article if you've got bad cholesterol. It just goes to show you how arrogant we are as a species, we'd like to (and continue to like to) believe we know everything despite having science constantly remind us the contrary. Continue Reading for more info on this article and a neat little video.

F$*k you Frodo I got my own Elf-Cloak: Instructions to 3D print an invis cloak

Now I'm sure this is just like any 'as seen on TV' product and it doesn't work nearly as good as advertised or initially assume (they things NEVER ARE!!) but either way this would be a good learning experience.

Well Provided You could actually afford to buy, rent, or use a 3d printer this would be something awesome to test out. Me personally, I think I'd start with the 3d printed guns then move onto 3d printed organs....you know the interesting (albeit EXTREMELY CONTROVERSIAL) subjects.

Another day another Chart-from-1944-that-illustrates-EVERYTHING-about-electromagnetic-Radiation (I know...a dime a dozen, right?)

So I just stumbled across this beautifully illustrated picture designed by the W.M. Welch Scientific Company (in 1944) that shows ALL (well at least as far as 1944 is concerned) characteristics for.... you guessed it: Electromagnetic Radiation. That's right kids! all you need to know in one simple, convenient and easily accessible place..... here (well HERE if you want a much larger version)

I read an interesting thing about coffee today, and again......it was brought to you by POPULARSCIENCE's website (source article: HERE) and it mentions BENEFITS of coffee

So before you throw this out the window consider this:

1. Coffee Can Make You Smarter

Coffee doesn’t just keep you awake, it may literally make you smarter as well.
The active ingredient in coffee is caffeine, which is a stimulant and the most commonly consumed psychoactive substance in the world.
Caffeine’s primary mechanism in the brain is blocking the effects of an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine.
By blocking the inhibitory effects of Adenosine, caffeine actually increases neuronal firing in the brain and the release of other neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine (12).
Many controlled trials have examined the effects of caffeine on the brain, demonstrating that caffeine can improve mood, reaction time, memory, vigilance and general cognitive function (3).
Bottom Line: Caffeine potently blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, leading to a net stimulant effect. Controlled trials show that caffeine improves both mood and brain function.

More on that...... if you read the article

Man of Steel 2 to film in Michigan!

woohoo y'all! Time to rejoice because that means I may have potential work in the next year. That is a very, very, very exciting prospect (also exciting: 18 days until I finally move in with my girlfriend).

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that the Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill super movie will be receiving "an incentive of $35 million on $131 million of projected in-state expenditures" by the Michigan Film Office. Filming will take place in Detroit and other parts of the state, meaning that city will stand in for Metropolis… or perhaps even Gotham City (or even both).

they're gonna hire 400+ full time jobs with an estimated 600 man/days worth of extra work too (which is probably where I'd fit in.....which would be fine)

BALLIN'!

Anyways...... read the superherohype article HERE and watch the videos too (or else!)

Happy Labor Day: Now read this study (if you want to....no pressure)

O.k. let me consult my daily checklist.....

1.Work a long (yet not bad day overall) shift at work....... CHECK
2. Get off said job....... CHECK
3. Grill Hamburgers because it's Labor Day......... CHECK
4. Celebrate LAbor Day because it's the first time you
haven't worked all day in three years............... F-ING CHECK
5. Spend quality time with the family and see my brother before he moves to California...DBL CHECK

It appears as if my day is going pretty swell, so now onto business...... I've got some spare time so I'm going to be posting about the 3 articles that I've had time to read today.

Article Number 1:

A study was just released by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences this week and US scientists, particularly the soft-sciences (yeah I'm looking at your bulls%^t psychology), are being targeted for their increasing uses of exaggeration, fabrication and bias results produced by our cracker-jacked-education-system-produced-scientists (myself included in that insult there).  Here's one thing they had to say about soft-sciences such as Behavioral (A.k.A Bullshit objective subjective) sciences:
Behavioral science encompasses anything that studies the way people (or animals) act and interact in the world, usually through observation. So that covers fields like psychology, sociology and anthropology.
"Behavioral studies have lower methodological consensus and higher noise, making US researchers potentially more likely to express an underlying propensity to report strong and significant findings," the researchers write.

I mean who would've thought that in the U.S. of all places (where competitive perspective and intelligence aren't encouraged and self-inflated egos and a sense of entitlement is) that we'd have such a problem? Is that really a surprise when you can talk to just about any college student about how they don't want 'to do their homework' and just end up spending more time trying to be lazy and figure out how to cheat the system than to actually learn and apply said knowledge. I don't know I'm biased when it comes to american intelligence, but then again I'm fresh out of college so what do I know right? Either way here is what they had to say:

Our preferred hypothesis is derived from the fact that researchers in the United States have been exposed for a longer time than those in other countries to an unfortunate combination of pressures to publish and winner-takes-all system of rewards. This condition is believed to push researchers into either producing many results and then only publishing the most impressive ones, or to make the best of what they got by making them seem as important as possible, through post hoc analyses, rehypothesizing, and other more or less questionable practices.

Again......cynical opinion incoming..... Who would've thought that when you stress quantity over quality that shit like this happens.

But this is also why it is very important to actually learn and get frustrated and try to figure it out on your own. You being self empowered and self motivated.
