Dakk Recommends: Lost River

Today Im going to talk about a pretty weird and wild indie movie called Lost River. It has a star studded cast, a wicked soundtrack, and it was shot in my homestate of Michigan........also it is DIRECTED BY none of than RYAN GOSLING!    (applause). I was streaming on twitch last night and we got onto the topic of this movie, can't remember how off hand, but I decided to do a little shout to it. As a person who adores cinema and media production I can't help but gravitate to this film on more than one level. On one hand, you have the organic birth of it, as this film started off as B roll and nothing more, not even an idea. On the other hand, you have a whole slew of actors that I respect who command powerful performances and just absolutely crush the roles they are cast in. I think the thing most importantly, though comes from the obvious bias that this was shot in my home state and I recognize a lot of the locations and I completely agree with the take that a lot of the aesthetics are beauty in decay…… For something that started off with no forethought I think the final product ended up being brilliant, and if you end up hating this film  you will only have wasted an hour and a half of your life which I guarantee you probably do every week doom scrolling or watching TikTok. Those are my thoughts and not yours.
