The Rumor Mills a-churnin: Is this the next movie in the CONJURING UNIVERSE?

That's right folks, less than a month after the release of the 4th and final mainline story in the WARRENVERSE (ew I kinda don't like that name but whatevs im using it) rumors have already started to circulate about the next steps and the path forward from here.

According to industry scooper Daniel Richtman, a sequel to 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona is in development under the title The Revenge of La Llorona. While The Curse of La Llorona is not considered an installment in The Conjuring franchise, it does take place in that fictional universe, mostly because of the appearance of Tony Amendola’s Father Perez in the movie. Amendola first portrayed the character in 2014’s Annabelle, a feature that is part of The Conjuring franchise.

For those in the know LA llorona is one of those things that both IS and ISN'T a part of the conjuring universe. While not officially connected to the main story OR the spin-offs the first film features Father Perez as stated and the whole controversy surrounding it's inclusion in thje franchise revolves around one singular producer not being involved in the production. So as of now this is treated as an easter egg (I think), kind of like how at the end of SPLIT you got a tease that connected it to UNBREAKABLE (which wasn't fully confirmed until M. Night Shylamanading-dong officially announced GLASSor whatever the third film was called where Bruce Willis was droend in a f***ing puddle smaller than a soccer ball).   I personally would put it in the same ballpark of the ghostbuster's cameo in the Christina Ricci film CASPER, it was just a fun little nod (although to be fair Father Perez was featured SIGNIFICANTLY more). Either way I'm ramblin about nonsense, time to dial it back in....

Here's what we know so far according to the article:

Richtman also mentioned that the production for the sequel will start next month in Buffalo, New York, and that the team behind the project is looking for a young male actor for the role of Antonio (between 12 to 15 years old), the son of new characters Luisa and Diego. The description refers to Antonio as a supporting character who “wants to be brave and the protector of his family” and “wears his family’s anxiety in his sleeve.”
