"Scientists have synthesized methanetetrol, an elusive alcohol that could be the foundation of alien life."
Now I don't know about you, but THAT'S exactly how you start off an article. It POPs enough and is guaranteed to capture attention. I just picture some aliens getting Cosmically WHITE GIRL WASTED. haha. Apparently though, scientists are doing what scientists do and F**ked around (Which always but inevitably leads to finding out) and this was the result.....a wonderous, witty, drunken result.
By all means, please.....Continue reading for more!
What was previously thought to be too unstable to exist, is now reality!
This 'super alcohol' is called methanetetrol and I guess it is the only alcohol with four oxygen and hydrogen groups around a single carbon atom. The oversimplified explanation is:
a molecule was formed under extreme conditions that were "space-like" but good things are coming from this breakthrough-- It may shed light on the complex reactions required to form extraterrestrial life possibly (which is willlllllllllllld).
Methanetetrol is a type of ortho acid, a class of compounds thought to be critical in the chemistry of early life. However, these compounds are hard to isolate and study. Methanetetrol's high number of oxygen bonds, for example, make it very unstable and likely to break down if not kept in specific environmental conditions. -Source via livescience.com
