COSMIC BOOZE: Chemist create a 'Super Alcohol' in Space-Like conditions

"Scientists have synthesized methanetetrol, an elusive alcohol that could be the foundation of alien life."

Now I don't know about you, but THAT'S exactly how you start off an article. It POPs enough and is guaranteed to capture attention. I just picture some aliens getting Cosmically WHITE GIRL WASTED. haha. Apparently though, scientists are doing what scientists do and F**ked around (Which always but inevitably leads to finding out) and this was the result.....a wonderous, witty, drunken result.

By all means, please.....Continue reading for more!

This is a tribute to LAIKA, the Brave space pioneer and Sacrificial lamb for Human Innovation

Even though her Launch was in November, I always take a quiet moment to remember Laika and her "sacrifice" for humanity randomly. I saw this post on a facebook page so naturally it drudged up all sorts of feelings on the topic of ethics in science and where to draw the line. This is a prime example of why science needs a leash-- if left unchecked we can rationalize all sorts of horrors for 'THE GREATER GOOD'

It’s been 67 years since she was sent into space. Not many talk about it now, but I think we should. Not because I’m a scientist or anything like that, but because it still matters.... (CONTINUE READING FOR THE ENTIRE QUOTE as well as our tribute to e good doggo)

The Andromeda Paradox (huzzah!)

I love life, the universe and everything. I adore existentialism, cosmology, and meta physics in general. It piques my interests exploring life's greatest mysteries, but for the love of god can we wait until I've had a cup of coffee please.

When Science IS magic: Turning CO2 into FUEL

Just came across an article on GIZMODO.com that is: 1. Super neat-o, 2. Straight Sci-fi and 3. Groundbreaking

The image you see above is from a reactor created by researchers at the University of Cambridge, no it isn't a FAKE HEART either wakka wakka. "What kind of reactor is it Mr. random blogger whome I've never met but I assume is extremely handsome" You may say (and schucks for that, you made me blush)

and to that I answer with: WELL..... it is one that, ohhhhhh I don't know maybe one that..... let's just say

one thaaaat collects CO2 by night and turns it into a useful gas by day. (No big deal, except wait....yes a VERY BIG DEAL)

The Blackhole in the Milkly Way is doing some straaaaange things (don't worry we aren't gonna die....yet)

sorry to burst your cosmic bubble but this is just a still image of GARGANTUA from the Awesome sci-fi flick INTERSTELLAR. Maybe you already knew that, maybe not, either way full transparency....

So I was reading some science articles today, and one tends to do, and I can across some galactic gossip: We got some crazy flaring going on in what was described as ranging from "flickers to brilliant eruptions" going on in the supermassive blackhole Sagittarius A* (pronounced A-star).

On the lighter side of things: penguins

There are so many traits about penguins that are awesome. They bond for life. They propose using stones. They adopt children. They have same-sex families. They know about community and solidarity. They are wonderful creatures. They are also wonderfully stupid sometimes, you can literally have the blind lead the blind if you do it right. Nonetheless I love these little beasts! Which is why I was so stoked when I came across this article from I f****** love science:

Click me...do it.....you know you wanna
......I was hooked. And you know you are too! Who doesn't want to know reasons that penguins are kind of like humans when it comes to communication? I mean really? It's definitely fascinating! Verbal languages crude as it is but it's nice to know we aren't the only animals that use it on Earth. Anyways, I'm rambling, continue reading for more info.

You might have some idea of how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.... What about pooping a Lego out?

 https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/it-takes-171-days-poop-out-lego-180970897/

1.71 is a number synonymous with Back to the Future..... 1.71 is the gigawatts (or jiggawatts for the uninitiated) required to time travel. 171 might also be the weight floating around in this flesh vehicle..... But nonetheless! The number 1 and 7 are about to get another claim to fame...... 'How' you might ask.....simple.... With Legos.
Continued imaginary dailogue
Non existentent person: ....k well what special or significant there?
Me: well.......poop
N E P: still don't follow
Me: that how long it takes to poop a Lego...
 *Awkwardmoment passes*
N E P: ...ooooooooo

More on that right now!

Sometimes science is boring. Sometimes science is fun. Usually science is a little bit of both but SOMETIMES science is MAD. That's what we are going to discuss today (strap in!)

OH motherboard you wonderful magnificent info pile you. Thank you in advance for this....

I was just scrolling through motherboard.com and I read this gem:

Researchers at the University of Tokyo were expecting to create a strong magnetic field, but they got a lot more than they were bargaining for.

So.......Naturally What did I do? CLICKED THAT ISH and I dont regret it for one second. Turns out Tokyo scientists decided to go HAM on magnetic fields and completely OBLITERATED their lab in the process. Immediately I say to myself "YESSSSSS" but made sure nobody died so it's all guilt free. Now to be upfront...this Isn't the strongest field ever generated but it is the largest in a controlled environment, which to me, is way more bad ass. What makes it even more punk rock is A. They pushed it further then intended and designed for and 2. They plan to do it again, with all they learned, and do it almost twice as strong (baller) This is a snipet:

"As detailed in a paper recently published in the Review of Scientific Instruments, the researchers produced the magnetic field to test the material properties of a new generator system. They were expecting to reach peak magnetic field intensities of around 700 Teslas, but the machine instead produced a peak of 1,200 Teslas. (For the sake of comparison, a refrigerator magnet has about 0.01 Tesla)"
You know you wanna click more......go on do it.... There's even a video :-)

PO-TA-TOS..... Boil em, Mash em, stick em inna stew

So I don't usually Diet..... I don't do diets, I dont drink diet, hell.....I don't body build or exercise unless I have to. I am so unfamiliar with the gym I call it James, but recently that is changing. I am not the young adult I once was..... Can't go on extended benders, can't eat acidic foods past 8pm, and can't have a diet which has 0 repercussions anymore. Lately I've been on a roll and eating a roll so my weight and gut have been racking up. Where I once was a nice 145 with a small bit of toned muscle and a slimmer waste (no gut) I have devolved into a cliche dad bod. Needless to say I have been on a semi-serious (well really not so serious) search for a good way to slim down and wind the clocks back. The past month I have increased and regimented and exercise plan and have been doing that with the sole intent of increasing my cardio and losing my gut. I also have been eating better and eating less later in the night. In actuality I am just reverse engineering the factors that led to my dilemma and while it is a slow road I would definitely still meet my target Goal. That's the prologue though, I needed to give a back story so this wouldn't seem like such a left field article. Again I typically am against dieting and body building if it isnt necessary. Fast forward to 4 days ago..... I'm just doing internet surfing like I usually do to decompress after a long work day (apartment maintainance and the general public can take a lot out of you) and I'm watching some Joe Rogan clips on youtube and I see this video:

That's where some gears started churning, and I got excited.... This is exactly the kind of thing I need. So here is my testimonial so far..... (continue to keep reading)

Draw Circuits instantly!!!! (spread the word to help them revolutionize teaching circuitry)

Spread the word today! This little Company sounds like they are an education based company. They aren't trying to revolutionize the world or anything but just make it easier to teach electronics to anybody on ANY surface you can draw on. How cool. IF this catches on who knows, cardboard circuit boards? its possible! I'd highly recommend checking out their website too at circuitscribe.com.
If you can and decided too support their endeavors (donate if you can)

Yeah Science B-Words!

"Imagine an oasis of warm sunlight surrounded by a desert of freezing cold darkness. Robots inside the oasis perform scientific lab analyses and process icy regolith brought from excavations in the neighboring darkness. This oasis, about the size of a football field, lies in a valley about twice the size of Washington DC, surrounded by peaks the size of Mount Rainier. From its low angle on the horizon, the sun’s rays never shine over the peaks into the valley, until heliostats unfold on these peaks and redirect the rays down to form the oasis of sunlight. This place becomes a large science laboratory and the largest off-Earth producer of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen for fueling inter-planetary trips." -The Source Article (click here via nasa.gov)

This idea is one of the coolest floating around in the possible future. Using reflectors to make perpetual solar energy. F-yeah! I say it at least once a week. "Now is an exciting time for science." WE are pushing the envelop on virtually every facet of every field. The connected world has many problems but we all help progress science. It is awe-inspiring and magnificent. I hope to get a field job in Engineering or Mechanics or Electrical Engineering one day but until then I will help with science education....well.....if passing along info counts as that......Continue reading for more info

Happy Pi Day!

Happy March 13th everybody! Or to those in 'the know' it is also called 'Pi day' due to its mathematical connection to the infinite formula circles know and love.

Pi R^square?.... Pie are round......
March 14th is math pie day...
damn I want some pie now
