DIY ARTICLE!!!!!! Hobbit holes and more
I know, how exciting right? Of all the articles on all the topics I have found the most interesting one! because vinegar has only 2 uses....... (sarcasm)
A tattered, 4-inch thick, 1909 book I happily secured for $8 in a thrift store reveals, among umpteen-thousand other every-day skills, how to make homemade water filters. The instructions in “Household Discoveries and Mrs. Curtis’s Cookbook” are quite basic as everyone had a rain barrel back then and presumably knew how to clean the water. Now, 104 years later, I am thankful the authors had the foresight to preserve their knowledge for us, and pointed out that rainwater collected in barrels from a roof is a necessity in some locations, but also is best for laundry and “often more wholesome for drinking purposes than hard water.”
Last but never least!

Oh satire........ You got me, as the kids these days say, 'Laughing out Loud'
I love satire. I just love comedy in general, you can tell the truth while being funny or at the very least while not being so grizzly about it. I also love how you can use satire to point out the outrageous-ness of things. So with that spirit in mind I have for you a couple of my favorite articles that have circulated their way to me in the last week or two
#1. Gay Teen Worried He Might Be Christian
LOUISVILLE, KY—At first glance, high school senior Lucas Faber, 18, seems like any ordinary gay teen. He's a member of his school's swing choir, enjoys shopping at the mall, and has sex with other males his age. But lately, a growing worry has begun to plague this young gay man. A gnawing feeling that, deep down, he may be a fundamentalist, right-wing Christian. -Link to Article here
hahahahahahahahahahahaha. This article had me rolling, figuratively of course. It's funny to me because people don't think that their worldview isnt as ridiculous from the outside looking in. Oh it is great, like how people think that somebody who is gay is less than a person. Asinine I tell ya.
But for more articles following the theme of satire, please continue reading.

I saw this the other day. Now I've definitely posted Conspiracy Stuff before but I have come a long way since then. I am not saying that conspiracyies don't happen because they legitimately do, but few and far between. I mean how can the NWO keep its operations underwraps for decades when 5 professional people with the backing of a political party (I'm talking about watergate if you cant see where this is going...) can't pull of the theiving of documents in an unsecure building. IT just doesn't seem reasonable. Plausible yes, reasonable.....no. Sandy Hook is the only thing that I can cry foul on since 9/11 although I am sure that with time I'll be able to come to terms with that horrible tragedy instead of creating a narrative that jutifies and/or denies that innocent children were killed. ANYWAYS..... I am getting off topic. I came across this video that poses a very simple question for a lot of conspiracy theories and it involved rich people....... It is quite comical and applicable
I just......wow....
This is soooooo cliche, yet so accurate. The only thing missing is the 15 Harley Quinns you run into....

Second Sleep may be for you as well! I want to segment my sleep
.......shoot I usually have 4-6 hrs nightly anyways. Gimme 2 4-hour blocks and I'd be chipper as heck
(yeah I have to say heck and keep offensive content to a minimum
Segmented Sleep is the practice of what is arguably a natural human sleeping pattern consisting of two sleeping period divided by a wakeful period. . Historian A. Roger Ekirch argued that before the Industrial Revolution, segmented sleep could have been the dominant way that people slept in Western civilization/Culture. IT has also been argued to be an agent in stress relief.
I heard about this little phemomenon a while back and finally got around to actually research it. It seems pretty legit. Scientists are starting to think that this may be our natural sleep cycle as well. Which to me would make sense because 1/3 of your day just sleeping...c'mon in a world of survival where there is no government to keep ya safe. It seems very anti-evolutionary. Ekirch credits this to modern electricity giving us that artificial light feeling. He did a study where people were deprived of light and most reverted back to their 1st sleep.2nd sleep cycle within a few weeks.

"The existence of our sleeping twice per night was first uncovered by Roger Ekirch, professor of History at Virginia Tech.
His research found that we didn’t always sleep in one eight hour chunk. We used to sleep in two shorter periods, over a longer range of night. This range was about 12 hours long, and began with a sleep of three to four hours, wakefulness of two to three hours, then sleep again until morning.
References are scattered throughout literature, court documents, personal papers, and the ephemera of the past. What is surprising is not that people slept in two sessions, but that the concept was so incredibly common. Two-piece sleeping was the standard, accepted way to sleep." --The Sourced BBC articleAmazon has Ekirch’s book At Day’s Close: Night in Times Past by the way! I found that out hile perusing and it is rife with example of segmented sleep.

"The human circadian rhythm regulates the human sleep-wake cycle of wakefulness during the day and sleep at night. Ekirch suggests that it is due to the modern use of electric lighting that most modern humans do not practice segmented sleep, which is a concern for some scientists.[8] Superimposed on this basic rhythm is a secondary one of light sleep in the early afternoon and quiet wakefulness in the early morning.
The brain exhibits high levels of the pituitary hormone prolactin during the period of nighttime wakefulness, which may contribute to the feeling of peace that many people associate with it.[9] It is in many ways similar to the hypnagogic and hypnopompic states which occur just before falling asleep and upon waking, respectively." -Wikpedia
Much like the experience of Wehr's subjects, these references describe a first sleep which began about two hours after dusk, followed by waking period of one or two hours and then a second sleep. "It's not just the number of references - it is the way they refer to it, as if it was common knowledge," Ekirch says. During this waking period people were quite active. They often got up, went to the toilet or smoked tobacco and some even visited neighbours. Most people stayed in bed, read, wrote and often prayed. Countless prayer manuals from the late 15th Century offered special prayers for the hours in between sleeps. And these hours weren't entirely solitary - people often chatted to bed-fellows or had sex.
Between segments null Some people: Jog and take photographs Practise yoga Have dinner... Ten strange things people do at night A doctor's manual from 16th Century France even advised couples that the best time to conceive was not at the end of a long day's labour but "after the first sleep", when "they have more enjoyment" and "do it better". --The Sourced BBC article

Anticipation.....EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. The Star Wars Panel is tomorrow
This just in: Sinister 2 trailer sneaks into Comic-Con (not really)
Yeah Science B-Words!
"Imagine an oasis of warm sunlight surrounded by a desert of freezing cold darkness. Robots inside the oasis perform scientific lab analyses and process icy regolith brought from excavations in the neighboring darkness. This oasis, about the size of a football field, lies in a valley about twice the size of Washington DC, surrounded by peaks the size of Mount Rainier. From its low angle on the horizon, the sun’s rays never shine over the peaks into the valley, until heliostats unfold on these peaks and redirect the rays down to form the oasis of sunlight. This place becomes a large science laboratory and the largest off-Earth producer of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen for fueling inter-planetary trips." -The Source Article (click here via nasa.gov)
This idea is one of the coolest floating around in the possible future. Using reflectors to make perpetual solar energy. F-yeah! I say it at least once a week. "Now is an exciting time for science." WE are pushing the envelop on virtually every facet of every field. The connected world has many problems but we all help progress science. It is awe-inspiring and magnificent. I hope to get a field job in Engineering or Mechanics or Electrical Engineering one day but until then I will help with science education....well.....if passing along info counts as that......Continue reading for more info
