Day 2: Hike 1- Bearfence scramble (my favorite trail)

Destination: Bearfence Trail loop
Distance: 1.2 miles
Elevation Gain: 990ft
Time: 10:45- 12:15

As mentioned….. if you read my previous post….. Today we got a double outing planned. With potentially imminent rain we wanna knockout one of our more challenging treks because it is strongly advised against to do with wet rocks due to slippage….. (and sine I’m writing this afterthefact I’ll tell you this, it is definitely certain to do in unsafe conditions)

CONTINUE READING for some danger and intrigue.

(I’m writing this at the end of my editing…. This is way longer than anticipated so I’m splitting it into two entries. Wow, didn’t realize I got this much footage. It’s a gift and a curse
Here we are tiptop, at the trailhead ready to tackle whatever is in store. Got here about 10:30, on trail at 10:40. Ended up getting back about 12:15. The trek was surprisingly challenging, there were aggressive elevation gain coupled with difficult terrain and the occasional single person pass. One spot on particular was tight and in a spot thst posed a legitimate risk. There are posted signs warning not to attempt if you have a fear of heights or the weather and/or rock conditions aren’t dry.

This was a lot more dangerous than the picture illustrates but I just had to do it. I saw a spot and I had to sit there. It happens.

The views of this trail are the first and maybe best. I don’t know I haven’t lived the adventure yet, but this sets a potentially unfair bar in the rest of the trip

Legit this is probably the lost dangerous bit of backpacking, hiking, day hiking, bushwhacking, I don’t know what you call it but I have definitely faced situations where a wrong move equates to injury and broken bones but never, if you lose your balance you’re plummeting and if you want to see this gorgeous view you have to swing around here so suck it up. This route had warning signs as I said. It is ot for the faint of heart. I’d hate to get trapped in a rainstorm here. You’d be pinned down, the rocks are slippery and it’s way too dangerous to move when wet from a constant rainstorm.
